Thanks for searching, Elaine, but my ladies parent's names were Francis and Janet (Jeannette) so I don't think that is the right family.
Main research interests.. CAESAR (Surrey and London), GOODALL (London), SKITTERALL, WOODWARD (Middlesex and London), BARBER (Canterbury, Kent) and CHEESEMAN (Kent).

Yes, that was where I got to when my head started spinning because I had looked at too many records and was getting confused.
Working back from the Australian marriage certificate which gives 'Lady Katherine's' parents as Francis Palmer and Jeannette Damp, I found this marriage on Ancestry. So these are the people that I am looking for in 1871
        Francis Palmer
        Male
        1 Jun 1858
        Saint James,Westminster,London,England
        George Palmer
        Janet Damp
        1042323
I have them on the 1861 here https://www.ancestry.com/interactive...99504519/facts

This might be them in 1881 but Janet has swapped names and says she was born in Chelsea.
        https://www.ancestry.com/interactive...801.1566551074

        And again in 1891 https://www.ancestry.com/interactive...801.1566551074

So these are the people that I am looking for in 1871. I'm wondering if they had already gone to Australia by then. Did my Thomas Henry Skitteral travel there on his own and meet 'Lady Katherine' when he got there?
Main research interests.. CAESAR (Surrey and London), GOODALL (London), SKITTERALL, WOODWARD (Middlesex and London), BARBER (Canterbury, Kent) and CHEESEMAN (Kent).

but when you have a look, it says Frances, Ann age 9 born Pemlico!
Ah, yes, I see what you mean now. And the name of the unmarried sister at the bottom of that household is probably Mary Kendall, not Iredale. Lots of enumerator errors in there. I wonder if he was a bit deaf plus the transcriber has made some mistakes, too. Thank you very much for finding it.

Sorry, I need help again. I can’t get my head round how to use the library access to Ancestry Worldwide. I have a hint for Francis Palmer suggesting that he is on an unassisted passenger list to Australia. No date, no other information. As I haven’t got a worldwide subscription, I want to look for that same information via the library but when I get there I can’t find him and there seem to be a huge number of passenger lists to look at. Is there a way to apply the Ancestry hint that I have to look for the record it refers to on the library edition?

With the hints, there is an 1857 list to Victoria, a Frances age 26 with 2 children on board the Undaunted arrived 24 Aug 1857

Thank you, Elaine. Do you have a worldwide subscription to get that? Wanting to learn techniques for future searches, is there any way I could get from the hint that I have to the same result via the library version?

I did look at those via the library and dismissed them because they appear to refer to female Frances's. There were two versions listed on the Undaunted. The first one is a widow (Frances) with 2 children. Arrived Melbourne 24 Aug 1857 and the second one is Thomas, Frances and Mary Palmer from Devon. Arrived Melbourne 20 Aug 1857. Are they the ones that you found?

According to the facts I have so far, Francis didn't get married until 1858 and his first children were Thomas and George.

if ancestry is offering a link, you can copy that link to somewhere (any place for text, email, word, notepad etc, and replace with ancestrylibraryedition and leave the rest of the address intact and copy that into the tab you have open for the library and it will show you the link

Have you come across this 1851, apprentice carpenter

                            https://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bi...&rhSource=9841

The hint is a non-conformist baptism, parents George Palmer and Catherine Warder married in Kensington and there is a Surrey marriage Bond and Allegation which states George is a widower

I've got them 1841 on FMP Robert Palmer born 1839 MMN Warder

Just catching up on this thread. It’s some puzzle and no mistake. Reading the shop lifting article, I was surprised to see that Bon Marche was in existence all that time ago. That’s if it’s the same chain that lately went into administration?

Have just googled the recently closed chain of clothing shops and it wasn’t founded till 1982 in Yorkshire according to Wikipedia. The Norwood shop must have been something different. Sorry for hijacking the thread, odd things occur to me sometimes.
