this is VERY confusing, this Robert CLAY also married to Elizabeth with daughter Mary.. his occupation - SLATER which also matches the m/cert that I will link to:

death:
Name: Robert Clay
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1851
Registration District: Manchester
Inferred County: Lancashire
Volume: 20
Page: 489
though this does present a problem, either Elizabeth lied about her being a widow, [or this isn't her husband] very careful scrutiny is needed here. I'll have another look to see if I can spot anything else..Julie

I wonder if this: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JWHB-6ZQ
is the same Robert Clay that married Elizabeth Wright Thomason

Thank you all for taking the time to research my family tree, I have previously paid a family researcher to look in to my paternal line and he managed to go back another generation and found Roberts father, He was a John Clay, The only information the researcher provided was a DOB of about 1790 for John, No place of birth was provided or any other supporting sources, Not sure how he made the connection?
