    Linda

Can you give a bit more info from the marriage cert of John and Sarah Annie Rayner?

What was her father's name and occupation?
What was John Mellors occupation at that time?
Were they both residing in Scarborough?
    Who were the witnesses?

Did you ever check the signatures of John on his marriage certs against the Signature of the John Mellor who was witness at Walter Mellor's marriage?

      Hi Vera,

      Sarah's Father's name.....Benjamin Dickinson

      Occupation Dyer in Woollen Mill

John's occupation at that time was Labourer (Colliery)

Both Sarah and John living 60 Westborough Scarborough (same address as on marriage certificate with Shirley)

      Witnesses J. Cutter and P L Reveley.

I have searched P L Reveley and he died a few years ago in Scarborough

Both certificates for the marriages are typewritten

      Thanks

I assume that he gave the same name and occupation for his father on this cert as he did on the other cert Linda?

A bit of a discrepancy with Sarah's age.. he was a bachelor aged 56 and she was a widow aged 75. She died 2nd quarter of 1968 and he married Shirley 21st December 1968.
Mmm - she may not have been truthful about her age, IF this was her first marriage??

In 1939 this couple lived in Snainton, a village about mid-way between Malton and Scarborough. Their house was near the railway line.

Going by the likely death for Sarah I think you're right Janet.

Unfortunately we don't seem to be any closer to finding out which John Mellor he is.

Thanks for the extra info Linda. Still poking about. Can see the John Mellor of Edwin and Emma on the Electoral Roll with brother Walter and Annice in the 30's and a John Mellor later with the Nelmes up to early 60's in the Barnsley area. Wonder if Sarah Ann Rayner had some connection with the Nelmes?

Hopefully dc may link John with a Mellor family member. I wonder if there is a death notice in the Scarborough press. However, possibly Sarah Rayner's son an informant as he was in Scarborough at the time.
