There's a whole court case about Jane Bryce's brother

          Inverness Courier 20 March 1844
Mrs Miekle, sister to the prisoner, residing at Leith, was brought on for examination, but was so much affected that she had to be supplied with a chair. She said she had not seen her brother for twenty years till Tuesday the 2nd January, about eleven o'clock. He said he had been out of employment...

...David Meikle- I am mate of the Royal William steamer, and my wife is sister of the prisoner. He came on board the Royal William to me in the afternnon of the 2nd January, with my little boy in his hand. I went home with him at night. There were about twenty people at my house that night. He diid not appear downhearted, but he was a stranger to me. He visited me at Grantown about twelve o'clock next day. He went abotu quite openly...

It was a murder case and James was 60yrs old

Robert Henserson is on the same steamer
          Oct 1843-April 1843

Nice bit of history for William Meikle and background information on the family and Thomas Cochrane mentioned

This is a family website powered by MyHeritage Family Pages. Family sites share family pictures with face recognition technology and showcase family history with online family trees.

Has them on the Ullcoats arriving 22 Jan 1864, found a list

Can see David and Jane, W. Meikle is in steerage and there is an R. Henderson, all on the newspaper cutting if you scroll down an on the right hand side

              Elaine ,
Wow , you have been busy ! Brilliant , I am sure the family will be really pleased to get much of this information. Especially the newspaper reports of the murder, and interesting history of the family in New Zealand . 1841 census , and passenger lists are throwing up several avenues of information . The report of Janet`s second marriage in 1867 proves that Robert Henderson did indeed die before then, so we can definitely rule out the other Robert Henderson as he died in 1890`s, a great find !
One of the ships mentioned in the murder case was a ship that Robert Henderson was on ,another connection .

I really appreciate all the hard work ,don`t know how you do it .
I have had a hectic day with the grandchildren, got some me time at last ,so I am going to study all the information you found in detail.
              Many thanks Elaine

I really enjoyed looking for the info, will go back over my family who went to New Zealand as I found putting less in gave me better results, especially Janet's second marriage. I thought finding her brother would add to Jane's family and it gave a reference to the steamer so a bit more about them. Funny how many Mieckle's there are too!

I love looking through the newspapers, especially the Australian ones, but I can't find a thing on Robert Henderson or a David Mieckle death at sea as the tree says. I didn't look for the others as I tried to find Robert again last night so I hope you have more luck in the future finding him. Will leave you to piece it together and search but let me know if I can help with anymore.
