      Me again!

have you read the transcript from old bailey?

      few statements

I have a brother named Tommy—he is not my first mother's child; he is the prisoner's boy

ERNEST HENMAN . I am a tailor, and live in York-street, Mile-end., The prisoner had been lodging at my house a twelvemonth when this happened—I do not remember her marriage with Seago—it was about three weeks previous to her coming to lodge with me—she was married when she came—there were no children by the second marriage

and I heard her say since that time that she has made shirts—she had four children of her own, besides Annie and Billy, who were her husband's children—they did not all live together; two of them, Tommy and Emanuel, a lad of fourteen, lived out.

HARRIET HENMAN ...then there was a knock at the door; it was repeated, and then I heard Mrs. Cooper say...
(the prisoner always went by the name of Cooper)

hi Elaine yes, she did marry Abraham Seago 28 Mar 1853 so dont know why he said she wasn't married.
Tommy and Emanuel are the two Porcas boys with her in 1851 .
Abraham did use the name Cooper in 1851 and thereafter.
I did see she had 4 children of her own but dont know the names of the other two, who I assume to be Porcas's too??
Very complex cannot understand why I cannot find Manuel/Emanuel anywhere seems odd, as the name is not too common.

Capture1.jpgwell I started doing some more googling last night and found another Newspaper article I hadn't seen, this states Mary had 4 children one was in prison for felony, so I looked for a Porcas and found a James Porcas in the criminal records in 1854 which is the year she was on trial, I am assuming he was born around 1840ish, now need to find him in the census records, this whole article of which I am only posting a part is even more horrific poor kids.

its all very odd this is the criminal record on Ancestry fits in with the time Mary was on trial, but the only James Porcas I could find about the right birth time has a Father Charles and a Mother Amelia?
            aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I have just trawled through all the Mary A A deaths from 1859 1870 and nothing looks likely. So if she did die soon after 1859 she must be mis-transcribed or something Val?

No you don't. You're having a great time.
I'll have a look on google again later to try and find the article. Or maybe would you mind emailing it or the link to me please.
You guys always give me pleasant, or in this case unpleasant, surprises to wake up to.
Would all these Porcas trials be on The Old Bailey do you think? I don't access to subs
Great work. I have found another cousin Val, through my Caroline Seago line and is following this with great interest.

Val, I've just found this thread on another forum, it definitely relates to 'your' Seago/Coopers.

Well, things are a little quiet on the forum so I thought I would pose a bit of a quandary. Sarah Watts married John Seago 28 March 1801 at St John the...

Might have to give this a rest as its really getting to me I hate mysteries I cannot solve.

Yes, that's me. Val and I are somewhat related thru the parents of Abraham Seago. His sister, Caroline is my husbands gggrandmother
I have been working on them for a number of years and these wonderful people have sorted lots of stuff out for me.
The Cooper surname came into it as his mother Sarah Seago nee Watts married Thomas Cooper after the death of her husband John Seago, coachman.

Val, There is another Seago who was tried at the Old Bailey with her then partner. She was found not guilty but he was transported for receiving. They married on the day he was carted off to the prison hulk and she followed him out. They both later were licensees of a pub and became quite well known in the city of Parramatta. When he died she was remarried to a retired superintendent of convicts and she became quite wealthy when he died. She was the aunt of Abraham.
I have more info if you would like it.

                                        Hi Val.
Old Bailey transcript is on line but all other information was a bit hard to put together and I would not have been able to do it without a letter written back in the 60's by another descendant of Abraham's sister, Caroline, who travelled a fair bit to search for the history of her convict great grandmother. Yes, they are an interesting family.
