  • Mary Ann Twigg parents

I have Mary Ann Twigg b1841 Sheffield, (census) married Henry Robert Bland Pearce 22 Nov 1861. Found the marriage entry - both fathers are dead. Found 2 entries in the paper, just says he is a merchant, no mention of parents.

Not sure what else I can check to find parents.

there are a few Mary Ann Twiggs

I have the census after she is married

I found William and Sarah Twigg and they seem to be alive in 1861 with siblings Elizabeth, Emma and Samuel

there are another William and Ann as parent, not able to sort them out.

Carolyn. They married in 1860 so should be together on 1861 census. Haven't found them though.

    Still looking!!

Found them from 1861 upwards on census in Sheffield.

      1851 Census
Mary Ann Twigg born 1841 parents John and Elizabeth
Mary Ann Twigg born 1842 parents William and Ann.

      1861
Mary Ann Twigg born 1842 a lodger.
1861 Mary Ann Twigg marries Charles Lugton and her father is William.

So looks like the one with parents John and Elizabeth could be yours. Will need more investigation though.

still amassing info on him, have found a report of his will in papers, have the census, not found the death record yet, not sure why not.

John was first born, so would make sense

Thanks Lin all seems to fit. I am doing my new mans tree, he had a handwritten one that didn't follow many branches, but made it a good start.

Great. Good to get something different to look up. I've just gone back to OH's tree. No one is interested in his fathers side so haven't done much on them. Really good to follow some lines through.

Carolyn, just looked at my tree because Wicker where Henry lived when he married rang a bell. My 2 x G Grandparents married there 24 Dec 1860. Perhaps they knew each other!!!

That would be funny. I will find see what else I can find out about henry in Wicker, I am intrigued that he is a merchant and has a servant in the household straightaway after marriage, so he must have a bot of money

The tree is public on Ancestry, you should be able to view without a sub.

The Twigg is the Pearce then married bell https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tr...d=182525633500

Yes I am enjoying the challenge, a lot of his tree has had a few notables and quite a few mentions in the newspapers. That just whiles away the hours!
