  • Immigration to Canada

Afternoon all im looking for some help in finding information on one of my ancestors. Im trying to find out when Jemima(nee Cook) Woolley 1783-1872 travelled to Canada, on what ship, and whether she travelled alone or with other family. She was married to John Woolley who died in 1847.
So she would have travelled after his death. Jemima died 29th April 1872 in Yorkville, Ontario and is buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
    Thanks for any help

What is the last date you have for her in England? Did any of her children "disappear" from UK records? Have you looked to see if any of her "known" family were also buried in Mount Pleasant cemetery?
I am asking because you have presented us with a very wide field of research. You probably already know the names/ dates /census returns of family members, information which will help narrow down search options and possible results.

according to a tree on ancestry that have found a transcription only of her arriving in 1871, looks like a daughter Charlotte was there and had died in 1869

      Jemima death is here https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageview...17?pId=1682128

Ontario has very active genealogy groups, and seem to rely a lot on local papers of the time. They've transcribed many of the newspaper BMD notices into books & CDs

findagrave - looks like someone is going to do the photo

yes, good find Vera, she is also in a trade directory on Ancestry in Jarvis street, in Toronto district, I assume it is her.

The transcription that is on Ancestry, doesn't give much info but interesting that she went back to England for a visit? - quite an age to be travelling.

Thanks thats a great find but now im really confused
When Jemima moved to Canada, yes she was widower and all her details appear correct. Yes she had a daughter Charlotte in Canada, im confused about Martha, according to my records Martha was married to Easterman West and theres records they are both buried in Chatham Kent. But there is a Martha Woolley buried at the same plot as Jemima in Canada

I can see the transcript on FMP. Got there via Kent archives. No image. Father's name William a Shipwright.
