  • Have you had replies ref all the ERs yet?

I wouldn't give up until I had all the replies to everything asked and if that doesn't lead to an answer then maybe you have to call a halt as you could go on as infinitum checking every Clara death that can be found.

    • Hi Margaret unfortunately that's all he er emails back in - some were helpful and some very unhelpful

I had a thought in an earlier post I said that Clara went to live with relatives of Eric Rolfe at a pub during the war. There is a death of a Clara L Rolfe in 1953 in maidenhead, Berkshire and maybe I was getting Maidstone and Maidenhead mixed up? I probably need a wee bit of help to see if this is maybe another Clara but worth a try?

Well certainly we had a debate about Maidenhead and Maidstone earlier on in your thread so it's definitely worth a look. I'll see what I can find.

        • There is a Clara Rolfe b1868 in Newbury Berks in 1911 can't find a marriage to husband Thomas b1870 but maybe this is the one who died in maidenhead?

          • Thanks Margaret that looks to have answered that one which leaves the Brentford death for Clara which I think is now worth a go

            • Here was the latest update from Amanda after she spoke to her father

"He said Clara definately died while they were living in Thornton Rd. I also asked him about other addresses he may have lived at. He said the family moved house alot. He was evacuated away to many different homes from the age of 7 to around 13 and often came back to a new house. After living in Thornton Rd, he remembers moving to a Hamilton Rd or St but Clara had died by then. He also said that Bella lived in Thornton Rd about one or two doors along from them so that may be another point for you to check out?"

Still seems to point to Ilford but simply no deaths found

              • She may have been living at Thornton Road Steve but as he was so young he wouldn't neccessarily remember if she died in hospital or visiting would he?

I agree if Clara died in hospital the death would have been registered in that district. Did someone say that Friern Barnet Hospital was in Brentford area? If the money is not an issue maybe the cert for the Brentford one has to be the next thing to go for.

                  • Friern Barnet is North London so it could be Edmonton. Definitely not Brentford.

                                  • The fantastic Redbridge Council came back with another update

"We have now searched the manual indexed records for the period 1939 – 1949 for Ilford, but to no avail.
As far as I am aware, the registration of deaths is/was only done at Register Offices. The boundaries have changed over the years and the Boroughs of Havering, Newham and Waltham Forest and Barking and Dagenham share many of the boundaries with Redbridge"

That was very kind of them and seems to indicate that there is no death in Ilford registered or unregistered between the dates advised. Whilst not great news it does at least point to

                                    1. Clara remarried and we simply can't find a marriage or she took her new "husband's" name without actually geting married and the death was registered under this name or

                                    2. Although she was living in Ilford around the time of her death she died elsewhere

Fingers crossed for Brentford - if she was living in Ilford why would she be in Brentford?

                                    Steven

She could have been in a hospital in the Brentford District for some reason - maybe a specialist hospital for certain illnesses or even that the NHS in Ilford had some spaces reserved at a hospital when they were full elsewhere. Even possible that she was in a convalescence home and took an unexpected turn for the worse and died.
