I can't cope with all this excitement! I think you have just cracked it Jane. I think my neighbour is going to have to fork out for that marriage cert.
ADDED: Night Owl...that has just rounded it off beautifully. It is him. This thread could be used as an instruction manual on finding difficult people.
My neighbour will be thrilled as she knows nothing of her mother's side of the family.
ADDED: Must try again with finding Percy in 1911.Last edited by Liz from Lancs; 18-09-11, 18:27.Liz

Night Owl...must find them in 1881 if can. Just checked Percy with his year of birth about 1877 but no go. Just going to try one of the possible wives Jane found...
ADDED: No, can't find either of the possible wives - perhaps the wife died and that is why Percy's daughter, Ethel, was staying/living with her aunt in 1911?Last edited by Liz from Lancs; 18-09-11, 18:41.Liz

Perhaps there isn't a marriage and the census hasn't mattered but they tell the truth on the registrations.
Did you not see that last WDYTYA?
They had just this issue with Alan Carr whose ancestor was a deserter from the army. The whole family did a moonlight flit to another town and reinvented themselves to their neighbours with one surname whilst all the while registering children in the proper surname!

Has anyone found Frederick L Leonard/Reynold b1827 St Martin-in-the-Fields in Baps or 1841 or 1851 census? If we have it right, he married in 1856 All Saints, Leamington.
I've checked Family Search IGI with both surnames for Baps - nil.
ADDED: Just checked the Hugh Wallis IGI website and St Martin-in-the-Fields, Westminster in listed with christenings for the right period. BUT due to changes in the Family Search website, his website isn't functional for the time being. Oh, so close!
Sorry, folks, but I have to go now until tomorrow. Thank you, on behalf of my neighbour, for all your hard work.Last edited by Liz from Lancs; 18-09-11, 19:54.Liz

5 possible siblings for Frederick, the earliest of which was born in 1815:
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?rank=0&f3=&f4=leonard&sx=&f16=&f17=&rg_f18 __date=1827&rs_f18__date=20&f24=&f19=&f9=thomas&f1 3=mary&f24=&gskw=westminster&db=lmabirths&ti=5538& ti.si=0&gl=&gss=rfs&gst=&so=3
Father Thomas's occupation is sometimes hatter and sometimes excise/revenue officer, but the address is nearly always the same, so it must be the same family.

I see Percy described himself as unmarried when he enlisted in 1914.Last edited by Mary from Italy; 18-09-11, 20:21.
