As I understand it, there have always been ? programmes ? available for Macs to run Windows but you'd then have to install anti virus anti spy, anti who knows what and be susceptible to any incoming 'flack'.

it doesnt run windows Rachel, just allows your mac to run windows programs...
On the subject of antivirus/malware etc... you should run a suite regardless of the computer you use. That way you are not only safeguarding yourself on the offchance that something may appear on your computer, but also ensuring that you don't pass anything nasty on...
We are running an antivirus package on this sites server to minimise the chances of anything nasty appearing on here, but we sure as hell don't use windows....

Just to go back to what Rachel said, there's a link on the Amazon page about needing a Mac OSX from version 5 or later, but as she says about the condition that afected her, it's very well hidden & you're not encouraged to look at it...the page just says it's suitable for Mac OSX & Snow Leopard....so I consider it misleading (they could easily have just added from version 5 onwards at the side of OSX) And, like Rachel's husband, I would swear that link wasn't there when I preordered because I tried to look at all that very carefully (although I can't prove it, of course)
When I typed in my reason for returning it, the section saying it was Amazon's fault & they'd make a contribution to the return postage lit up, but I don't know if they will...& I'll still be about 7 pounds out of pocket (it's not the amount, it's the principle) A similar thing happened earlier this year when I bought a faulty DVD on Marketplace. The return postage wasn't refunded.....Amazon said they recommend sellers to do so, but they don't have to (I think if Amazon themselves admit a return is their fault, they should return the full postage)

I'd say the fault is with Ancestry ....
When we ordered, there was nothing on their website about needing an Intel Processor.
On the FTM box, although it mentions OSX 10.5 or later and Intel-based Mac, these are only RECOMMENDED System Requirements.
It doesn't indicate that unless your Mac's fairly new, you're stuffed
