Hi all,
Have come accross an 1851 census where the address is the Model Lodging House, Parish: St John the Evangelist, Ecc District: St Matthew and City: Westminster. Census ref is H.O.107/ 1479.
Having googled this, there seems to be quite a few similar places and it is hard to know which one this actually is - having a Parish, an ED and a City is quite confusing because there are lodgings in St James, Westminster, but also ones in just 'Westminster'.... how do I know which is the right one?
Also, anyone really understand what these places were? Google is telling me various things from prisons to workhouses to dormitories and hostels....?
If anyone is able to shed any light I would be most grateful...
Rachel
(also posted this over at Brit-Gen forum, hope thats ok, hopefully someone somewhere will know)
