Rather than add a question arising from that thread re GRO and local record offices certs, I thought it better to start over...
I'm feeling like an idiot here because I really didn't know this, but I'll use the excuse that I have very little need for any English certs....lol
I bought my great grandfather's birth cert from GRO online. I gave his mother's name as a check. The cert was 1857.
When I got it, his father's name is incorrect. It says Joseph when it should be James. I did ask here at the time and we concluded that maybe it was written as 'Jas' (for James) and transcribed as 'Jos' (for Joesph).
Now......is it possible to get the original to check??????????????
It is from Chelmsford district Essex.
I do have his baptism and that is correct with James as father.
If it's possible how do I go about this from Aus.???
