Sure does Julie, there are now 412501

With all the stuff Tim is doing on the surname pages then things could get really interesting when googling a name in the coming months

So from the instructions I see that I can create gedcom files for various branches of my tree rather than the whole tree. I can prune off branches received from other sources. I can post many different trees - eg the Smith line, the Jones line and the Brown line.

People have posted that they've added more names . Does that mean your data base recognizes that, say, I added the smith line months ago and now I re - add the smith line and the data base only worries about the changes rather than adding names twice.

Rats there was another question but it disappeared while I was trying to express the second one. This evening I will see about creating a gedcom. This week has been so much fun bouncing between fiindmypast census and freebmd tracing a line from 1830 to 1891. A contact from GR shared a tree. From all you experienced people I've learned to not assume it is correct but it was a starting point. There was so much more info available to find. So I think that will be the first gedcom i create.

When you upload a gedcom to the site it automatically overwrites any previous gedcom you have added.
You can only add one gedcom file to the database so you cannot create gedcom files for different branches of your tree and upload them all.

yep, I spent a while last night just entering the village names so I can see who was where, and if I have any possible contacts...

totally agree about it being a cool way to search!

It's quite an eye opener to see just who had rellies in the same areas as your own or to where you live now.

Julie has a couple from Berwickshire and there are several from Coldstream for example, it's strange to think i might be walking past houses that maybe 130 years ago were homes to folks on the site.
