Thomas is living with Esther Grace and their first child in 1891.

In 1881 he's with his wife and 3 servants (it's definitely him, as he's a pawnbroker, born in Gateshead). The wife's transcribed as Eliza, but looks like Kezia on the image.

Good point Mary, if a daughter is still living either she's very old or we have the wrong man.

He's with wife Kezia in 1861, so this must be the first marriage:

That's what I was thinking. Esther was 38 in 1901, so she isn't likely to have had children after about 1908-10.

1861 With Kezia and Lovelady's descibed as in-laws.

Thomas is a Clothier and Outfitter so not always a Pawn Broker.

                      First wife's birth?

                      Births Dec 1837
                      Lovelady Kezia Wirral 19 233

That fits with her age on the censuses, but I can't see a Lovelady-Doodson marriage.

I think that Thomas's son also Thomas married a lady named Molly (Mary/Margaret) and had my friends nan.

Which is why he got confused.

Thomas William Alan Shaw married an Elsie Myers in 1913 Birkenhead.

Hopefully you'll here back from Birkenhead town hall and they'll be able to comfirm if this was the only Shaw who was Mayor.

There are two ladies born in the Wirral with surname Shaw and mother's maiden name Myers on FreeBMD: one in 1914 and one in 1918.

And her father was Thomas William Alan Shaw?

Danny if it's ok with your friend to pm me her name (with maiden name that is) I could check if she is one of Thomas William Alan's daughters.
