  • Black people in Cheshire c. 1919

Would there have been many black people living in Cheshire at this time? - in particular, children ?

I gather that there were black children "adopted" into families in Lancashire to work in the cotton mills - but in Cheshire?

    Thanks

As we have seen from WDYTYA and similar programmes, there were African and West Indian doctors and others around "in the provinces" in the early 20th. century, who married and set up home in the UK.

You're so kind. I didn't think it was at all helpful. :D

Oh and there was a mass exodus from Armenia ("ethnic cleansing" by the Turkish authorities) during WW1 which was why my g-aunt's husband turned up in the UK in 1919.

I expect a lot of escaping Armenians turned up here about that time (sorry this is following on from my post on the other thread!)

Read your post on other thread Merry - thanks

One of the brothers of the lady who brought X up was involved in the local poor law.
