I've found loads of new ones, but so far only one with anything on the back.

        Great, thanks, Lynn.

Two of mine have now been added; unfortunately I'd already paid to download them from TNA, but the quality's much better on Ancestry.

One has nothing on the back, and the other has the father's name and address.

Found my great-uncle who died on the Somme in 1917. But what was the Bedfordshire Regiment doing in Nigeria in 1915? The annotations on the back refer to his mother applying for her late son's medals after the war. And no reference to the Somme on the medal card.

Uncle John, I think the medal index card usually only tells you the "theatre of war first served in", not every place they fought.

I've found my grandfather's medal card. Nothing on it only the two medals. He was killed in action, and I was hoping it might give me some other info, but nothing on the back.

I wonder if my gggrandfathers has been added yet. ALexander McKerrow b 1835 died 1909. As far as I know he served with the black watch.

True. I wonder where 4C was - presumably Nigeria. And I can't work out what medals he was awarded either.

Have you looked at the explanations here?

Sorry, Gloryer, the index only contains WW1 medal index cards.

Uncle John, if you can post the image up on here, or give us enough info to find it on ancestry, maybe some of us can help figure out what medals he got.

Thanks for that link, Mary. I'll see what I can make of it. War Office-speak looks even more obscure than Civil Service-speak.
