  • Anyone need a Pub?

This is a brilliant site if you have ancestors who worked in the licensed victualers trade in London, Essex, Kent and Suffolk.:D

London, Essex, Kent & Suffolk Pubs, Inns, Taverns & Beer Houses History & Trade Directory

I found my Gt Grandfather mentioned plus pictures of the pub where he was an 'ostler' in 1881.

          thank you

This a great site Allie-- thanks for posting it! I just found our Bostock family from 1870-1890, running the Kings Head, Kings Head Hill, in Chingford Essex. The family left there in 1890 and came to Canada, actually, Victoria BC on Vancouver Island.
Has the complete family listed --- and to boot, there is a fantastic picture!! Whooeeee! Already saved and entered into my family file.

            Hi again Pat!

That's a great result for you!

It's good that they have all the people who lived in these 'establishments' plus the photo's which we would never have been able to see otherwise.....

              Morning,

I saw this thread yesterday and had a good look through the website as only last week had info. that my Gt. Grandparents ran the Bunch of Grapes in Wapping - my immediate family had no knowledge of this and from trawling through yesterday I certainly couldn't confirm it - but this morning I've seen Patbe's comments and couldn't believe it - I actually ran the King's Head, on top of King's Head Hill, Chingford for 5 years back in 1980 to end of '85! How funny is that?? The fact that I'd been a landlady (with the ex OH) for around 15 years makes us doubt the story about my Gt. Grandparents as my own Gran came to every pub I'd run and never mentioned that her own in-laws had run one - I've already saved this pub website to my favourites and am sure will use again.

Hi Gill-- the world gets smaller all the time doesn't it? How cool is this?!

I had been told that the Bostock's had reunions at a pub, wasn't sure which one, but now I bet it was the Kings Head. I wonder if they had one when you were there?

hi Pat, can't say I recall the name Bostock - I think I have a few pics of the pub myself - my son is scanning all our photo prints/negatives onto PC, then we are doing DVDs of each year so we can view photos on the TV - which is rather nice - so I'll ask him to let me know when he finds any of the King Head, think I may have one or 2 - I've looked at the one on the webpage and it doesn't seem to have changed much - I'll see what I can dig up! I had my daughter there and have lots of good memories - have to say glad I'm out of the business these days though - all day opening!!!

Have you thought of googling the name of the pubs you are interested in as that's how I found my Gt Grandfather's pub?

Maybe you could post a new thread and someone on here will take it up.

If you know the names of the pubs, perhaps someone on here will know them OR you could email a local history society?
Sorry not to be of much help!

The name of the pub is
"Duke of Edinburgh"-Bridgewater St., Runcorn, Cheshire.
It existed in 1899 at least.
