  • Quarter Sessions - advice please

Advice please - where do I look?

I have found someone in Wakefield Prison in 1851. Having asked round I've been told that no records exist for the prisoners at that time (other than the census)

It has been suggested that I look at the quarter sessions and see if I can find anything that way.

My problem is - which quarter sessions do I need to look at? Would it be Wakefield or would it be one nearer his home town of Worksop? He was at home in Worksop in both 1841 and 1861.

Does anyone know if there any details of quarter sessions on line?

    Many thanks
    Barbara

    Hallo Barbara

I would think the quarter-sessions would be the ones nearest where he committed his offence, the naughty boy! You will find them at the relevant records office. It is possible they may be indexed - or you could try looking for Quarter sessions and specifying the county on A2A, A2A Advertising, A2A Internet, A2A Web design, a2a directories, A2ASMS - Home

      Hi Barbara,

I too think it would be where the offence was committed -

I don't know whether this link might be any help Quarter Session Records

        Thanks both

My biggest problem is I don't know where or when he commited the offence, or what the offence was, so I don't know if I'm looking for a needle in a haystack

I'll have a browse round those links as well
