Joan Atkinson married 1947 to Sydney Bell. He is on 1939 Register as single living with his widowed mother Jane A(nn) nee Ruddick which matches the ancestry tree. His father had been called Thomas. Sydney was a police constable. He lived in Corbridge in later life according to electoral rolls and he has actually passed away in Corbridge in 2013 but it’s indexed as Sidney not Sydney.

As the 1931 census for England and Wales was destroyed by fire during the Second World War and no census was taken in 1941, the Register provides […]

Unfortunately, however, it is currently listed as "closed or unattached" so I'm not sure where you might go for further info. Some nice interior and exterior pics here though:
The church was built 1885-86 to the designs of Oliver and Leeson. The large cruciform building, in the Early English style, sits within a small former mining community. It was sympathetically restored following a fire in the vestry in 1963 which damaged the Chancel and south chapel.

I have tried again but I think I need to wait and see what comes of the email to the memorial people. I want to thank everyone for having a look, the airmen are to be remembered on a new memorial and I am the only one researching them, I am sooooooo grateful for everyones time.Elaine
