  • Elwyn John Heaphy in 1891

This winter I am updating my research with all the new information online. Going through family lines not updated for almost ten years. So today I'm working on the Heaphy line. Thomas Frank Heaphy married Eliza Bradstreet and had eleven children from 1843 to 1861. What is intriguing is that I can find no one in the 1881 census. Most had married, moved on with life, so it would be a great coincidence if all of them were mistranscribed. The one bothering me the most though is Elwyn John Heaphy. Elwyn was born 7 Aug 1844 and baptized 18 June 1849 at St. Mary Marylebone, London. He is found in the 1851/61 censuses at home. In 1871 he is found with wife at 208 Kings Road Chelsea. The electral roll has him at 211 Brompton Road then 174 Brompton Road in the early 80s. He was going through a messy divorce at the time so should be in the 81 census. He should also be in the 1891 census. He died in 1892 and was buried19 Apr 1892 in the Old Brompton Cemetery. I don't know how to search by address on Ancestry. Could someone have a go in the 1881 and 1891 census using the address 174 and 211 Brompton road, Kensington. Thank You
    Donelda

Thank you so much. Did not expect to find so many of the family there. One wonders how John was able to carry out all those affairs IN the house along with the cruelty with all the siblings in residence. Or maybe there was a family meeting because the oldest brother was married with children who were in Sandhurst, Berks at census time. As usual one mystery solved creates many more questions. Ooo for a time machine.

Ooo and thank you Elaine for the 91 find. Again more questions Where did Sidney Heaphy come from . Probably registered under his mother's name. So there was an affair as he had only one child with his wife. And Elwyn John died in 1892 so Sidney may have reverted to his registered name. Ooo the questions are not for you to answer but for me to share with husband (his relations) and continue the hunt.
