any name could be spelled differently!
Most people were illiterate, and how a name was written down depended on how it was heard .......... try to imagine someone who spoke broad Yorkshire trying to understand someone from Devon!My grandmother, on the beach, South Bay, Scarborough, undated photo (poss. 1929 or 1930)
Researching Cadd, Schofield, Cottrell in Lancashire, Buckinghamshire; Taylor, Park in Westmorland; Hayhurst in Yorkshire, Westmorland, Lancashire; Hughes, Roberts in Wales.

The searches on a lot of sites are quite good with offering alternatives to give you a few ideas, check boxes that give you options of sound like/similar etc could be Anderson immediately springs to mind and ending in 'ton' rather than 'son'Carolyn
