Most of my father's National Service 1946/7 was spent at Mousehold Heath near Norwich where German POWs were waiting to be repatriated. I have several photos of him with his army colleagues and with prisoners. Most are just little snaps but one is a formal portrait and has writing on the back, I'd like some opinions of what it says please.

It seems Boilermann is a German surname.
I think the word before it is Jonis with a long line over the top, denoting an abbreviation (or just the dot for the i).
Jonis is an abbreviation for Johannis.Last edited by Elizabeth Herts; 30-10-19, 10:54.Elizabeth

I think that is probably right GL. Maybe he was a member and was being polite to his previous "hosts" . They had 10 strict principles that were to be followed according to that article.
He then signed with, I think, 3 names.Last edited by Katarzyna; 30-10-19, 15:51.Kat

Thankyou everyone, plenty to think about there. The photos were in a bagfull dad gave to my brother a few years ago with instructions to take the ones he wanted and to give the rest to me, nearly all were ones from my childhood which I scanned but I put the army ones aside and it's too late to ask him now as he died in 2013.
