you could put it on ancestry, you can make it wholly private if you don't want it searchable etc. you can download an app in Android.

you don't have to have a membership. you can do the same with findmypast too, not sure which is better to look at.

If you don't want to expose your tree to Ancestry, even if you make it private Ancestry still matches the data. You can use a Gedcom viewer on an exported Gedcom file. My current favourite is GedExplorer. https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...lorer&hl=en_GB

On a slightly different aspect, is there any good software which will run on an Android tablet or chrome book so I can build the tree on those platforms rather than just view it.

I am after a new laptop and am considering a chromebook as an alternative.

Anything designed to run in a web browser will run on a chromebook, so all the usual subscription sites. It will be like having just chrome and nothing else, so you can practice using one just by only using chrome, which you can do on a tablet/ipad as well as a chromebook.

or to run exclusively on the chromebook you will need an app.

There is an appstore but I can't see anything obvious and would guess it is quite specialist:
    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions

my old manager loved his and wrote articles here:
    https://thesystemsaccountant.wordpre...ting-solution/

Are you looking for a free solution?
are you concerned about it being on a subscription site?
are you concerned about it being viewable by others?
Do you use Chrome now for browsing websites?

Caroline mentioned this software the other day:
https://www.tngsitebuilding.com/ and I think you can use it to build your tree too, but you will need a place to host it. You can buy webspace for about 3 years for under £100, but after 3 years it will go up, or it will be like your utility you will need to transfer it!

I have also remembered that https://www.rootsmagic.com/RootsMagic/Features.asp let you publish your tree to the internet too - for view only

I am fairly sure to download a gedcom file you would need a 'cloud' space, but there are plenty of solutions out there - do you use any now? Everyone gives you some for free, even your broadband supplier I would think. Google, Amazon, along with dropbox etc

In reply to the first question, I have recently on Windows 10, upgraded to FTM 2019 which, although not yet, is also intended to be viewed via an Android app.

Incidentally, I do also still synch my FTM to Ancestry although I do not have a subscription, and then occasionally view the Tree on the iPad which I have done since the time Ancestry use to own FTM. However the accessibility on my iPad (3rd Generation) to me seems slow which could I guess be down to the fact my iPad, like me, is old.
