My grandfather, James Joseph Dempsey, was born in Dublin in 1903. At some point he joined the British Army and was posted to India. He caught malaria during this time.
He was also stationed at Hounslow Barracks in Middlesex, I have a postcard his mother sent him there. The postmark isn't totally clear, but looks like 1927.
He married my grandmother in April 1931, also in Dublin. At this time he was no longer in the army.
After the second world war started, he rejoined. Again, I don't know the date and there is no one left to ask.
In 1946/47 he was moved into army housing and his wife and children joined him.
I think he then became unwell, left the army and moved again.
Is there anyway I could find out more about his military service?
TIA
