I put a tree on FMP a few days ago and today got an excited e-mail from them saying that they had found a tree very similar to mine and giving me the matching names, it was indeed almost an exact copy of my tree, but I was only given the chance to merge their tree details into my tree nothing to say who this tree belonged to or giving me the chance to contact anyone.

I asked FMP about contacting the other party and was told that it wasn't possible at the moment but hopefully that was something that will be implemented in the future. This leaves me to think that there will be an awful lot of copying going on without much thought as to if the information is correct or not.

I thought that one of the purposes of finding a matching tree was to collude with the other person to swap details that perhaps aren't on the tree thereby finding remote cousins and (as I know that some of you have done with GR) make friends through the message boards even though there isn't a family connection.

I'm left feeling a bit disgruntled that there is potentially another member of the family out there that I have no way of contacting and swapping family stories with.

Anyone else with a tree on FMP feel like this?

I had a similar experience, it does seem a pointless system at the moment

Glad that I'm not the only one.

Their family tree program leaves a lot to be desired. Quite a clunky system. I suppose they don't want to be the same as other brands, so playing around behind the scenes more.

Its rubbish! I love FMP for searching and it has loads of the PR images I need but the tree and hint system is dire. I gave up on the tiny tree I started on there ages ago. Then I started getting email 'hints'. Considering I use the site almost every day they were lagging way behind stuff I had been looking at. Sending me emails saying, you'll want to look at this one. Well, surprise, i already had, several days ago ... keep up FMP!! I turned off email hints in my settings.

I tried the tree and don't like it at all, so have up. Just use for searching now
