A possibly lead to follow is William Cartwright's army attestation. In Dec 1885 his address is 7 Cardigan Street, but an 1887 document gives his address as 27 Geary (?) Street. His occupation is Trimmer.

Cardigan Street is in The Newarke (Leicester), but I can’t find a Geary Street anywhere. However, I wondered about a short article in the Leicester Chronicle 15 Mar 1884 about a William Cartwright, trimmer, 27 Gray Street, fined 5s for playing Pitch & Toss

In 1891 at 27 Gray Street, The Newarke was Richard Cartwright 37 Chimney Sweep born Nottinghamshire & his wife Jane 35 born Newark, Notts. William Cartwright’s later occupation was Chimney Sweep.

William is not with Richard & Jane in 1881, but Richards PoB has changed to Sheffield, Yorkshire, and in 1911 he gives his PoB Namby (Manby?) Lincolnshire!

I feel sure that Richard & William must be connected, but I can’t trace Richard before 1881 – can anyone else?

      That’s a great find! I can’t find anything prior to 1881 either :(
