Could anyone help with finding emigration records for Duncan Clark ,b 1856,Portnahaven ,Islay. between 1881 and 1893 . He married Annie Victoria Newman in 1893 in Haiweiwei ,China ,but I can`t find any record of him going out there before that . I am also looking for a Catherine Macgregor ,b 1869 Glenorchy, Argyll, who was governess to their children later. Trying to find an emigration before 1907 as she was in China then. I have found most of the emigration records for Duncan after 1903. Annie died 1906.He married Catherine in 1910 in Glasgow, but just trying to find out when they first went out to China .Duncan and Annie returned to UK between 1902 and 1903 ,can`t find that record either. It may be Catherine was hired as governess when they were in Scotland, as they went out to China in 1903 . I hope this makes sense !

    Appreciate any information found .

What was Duncan's occupation - was the travel to do with his job? I saw that he sailed to Hong Kong in 1903; HK would have been a UK colony then, I think, so a bit like the military and civil servants getting postings to India.
The main bulk of outgoing sailings are on FMP, but the collection is 1890 and onwards, so probably wouldn't help with 1880's travel.

Duncan Clark in 1881 census was a driller in Scotland . He must have gone to China before 1893 ,as he married in 1893 in China. I can`t find him on 1891 census in Scotland .
