I am researching Dawsey McNaughton she was a stage actress in the early 1900's born about 1888, she married Norman Adolf Blume in August 1912 in Manhatten, states 'Daisy' in the records. I have photos of her and some newspaper clippings but just cannot find her real name at all. They divorced in 1925 and I have the divorce papers but they do not state a real name or even a DOB. I have spent hours trawling the inter net and think maybe I am just missing something that is staring me in the face. She died in 1928 aged 40 and it states Dawsey M Blume on death Index. Also as in US I am finding it difficult to order the certificates. Would love to be able to fill in missing pieces.

Searching for certs is not straightforward in the US. They are often located at the County Recorder, but sometimes at the state level, sometimes both. By 1928, deaths are usually, reliably recorded.
My ancestors in your time frame, especially the women, would, uh, misrepresent their ages. As censuses progressed, their birth year kept moving forward in time. Have you located her in the 1900 census? That would give birth month and year - but I'm guessing you don't have it because she wasn't yet on stage?

She died in Manhattan, New York. Under Dawsey M Blume.
I have just found this article in the newspaper 1928
Death of Dawsey McNaughton.JPG
Which I am assuming is her. However I still do not know her surname as Daisy her sister could have been married and so could Margaret Watson.
No I do not have any census's as yet.

You know about Scotland's People, right? They usually have lots of detail!
I haven't been able to locate the DC on FS - might be a gap in their records?
Here it is - McHaughton

So, the FS transcription of the DC indicates she lived in Brooklyn. There is a newspaper for the Brooklyn borough, The Brooklyn Daily Eagle. If the death notice that you have is not from that, you might try to find access to the Eagle - it's more likely to have a lengthy obit. The free online only seems to go to 1902. Newspapers.com seems to have more:

No I didn't know about Scotland's People this is the first time I have had to search Scotland or USA.
But this is all great thank you so much. The newspaper article was from the Eagle and that is all I have on her death. I will now try and find her birth although just looked on FS and it does not appear to be there.

Unfortunately, that means that naturalization records, if found, won't tell you much
And of course - we're not even sure that Suzy100 is even interested in this line? She only expressed interest in the person who died in the 1928
Suzy100 - Scottish CivReg began in ?1854. Lots of PRs still available, tho, also on SP, and often indexed on FS.Last edited by PhotoFamily; 28-04-18, 23:40.
