I have had a lot of problems with my laptop over the last week for some unknown reason. The latest is that I logged on tonight and found that the internet opened with BING which I have never ever looked at and wonder where it came from.

I like to think that I have reset the Google homepage but it has added / plus these (gws_rd) above and I wonder why. Also I appear to be on line with a strong signal and my page just keeps freezing.

I am with Talktalk and have only had problems since I had a new router from talktalk could this be the cause of any of these problems? I have run MS Essentials full scan and the only thing that came up was that I had a serious problem with words like Windows 3... delete as it will damage your computer. I did this and wonder just what is going on.
As I tried to post this I received the following message in a box:
M S Visual C + + Runtime x Runtime Error Program Files (x86)\ I E \ Explorer EXE This application has requested Runtime to terminate in an unusal way. Please contact the applications support team for more help OK
Who would the support be? I think this is going to be a job for computer expert if I can find one near me.

I 'think' Bing is actually Microsoft's own search engine which they occasionally try to get you to use. Do you still use Internet Explorer? Is it up to date? Have you trued using a different briwser such as Chrome (belonging to Google) or Firefox? Do you have Windows 10, because I think Edge is the MS browser for the but not sure if you can use Edge on Win 7 or 8.
Hope someone with more nous than me comes to help you, but in the meantime may those questions will help.

      Thank you Anne and Val,

I think that I will need to study the links
more detail but it seems to be the problem and it all came at once. So far my android tablet has not changed yet.

I was so worried that it was about 1 00am ( uk ) time before I went to bed having done a full backup and run a full scan again.

        If you enter

into the address bar of your browser then you will get the redirect mentioned in the first line of the opening post. If you enter
https://www.google.co.uk - make sure you do not miss out the s in https -
then you should not get the extra /?gws_rd=ssl. I have tried this in both Chrome and Internet Explorer. If you have google set as your home page then check that the address is the https version.
