I have used an ergonomic mouse since 2000, after a serious car accident. I am fine now and the mouse is still going strong 16 years later! Mine is a Logitech but there is a big choice of ergonomic mice available. I would suggest that you visit a few retailers and have a hands on trial, there are many to choose from but you may find that some suit you better than others.

Thanks Brian I am getting really bad pains in my fingers and wrist now so thought I'd better treat myself but there are so many choices, and I swore years ago to never go back to PC World, and there do not seem to be many other suppliers around here so was going to get one from Amazon.

I haven't got an ergonomic mouse but because I was getting a sore wrist I got a gel mouse mat a few years ago and its really solved the problem. Mine is a Sandberg one like this

Sometimes I get a sore hand/wrist or fingers. When that happens I swap the mouse to my other hand. Takes a little while t get used to!! After a couple of weeks rest my rght hand is 'better' and I swap back again. I have a bad habit of leaving my hand on the mouse all the time, even when not needed .... I try to curb this habit too.

              Hi Val,
You could visit PC World or somewhere similar and try out their mice or mats and then buy from Amazon if they are cheaper. I was looking for a wireless keyboard earlier this year and I bought a Logitech keyboard and mouse (both wireless) at a knockdown price. My old ergonomic mouse is wireless as well.
              Good hunting,
              Brian.

hi and thanks for your reply Benbow, I swore never to set foot in PC World ever again years ago, and I meant it then and do now, so its awkward for me as where we are there aren't any places that I know of where I can try one.
Amazon are very good at returns though so maybe I will try them.

Larger branches of Tesco carry a range of mice that you could try, and it might be worth looking at a disability specialist shop.

Yes I have an Evoluent Ergonomic Mouse, in fact I have two, one for the desktop computer which plugs in and one for my laptop which is wireless. I have been using this sort of Mouse since 2008 and both are still going strong. I love it and would not go back to an ordinary mouse. The only problem I find now is if my OH wants something done on his computer I find it difficult to work with his ordinary mouse!! It takes a little while to get used to the different feel, which is more like a mouse handshake if you inderstand my meaning! But it is a much more natral way to use the mouse. Nobody else in my family likes it! The wireless one is good because I just use one rechargeable battery which charge lasts a few months as long as I rember to yurn it off every night! The other thing to remember is there are right and left handed ergonomic mice, so make sure you get the right one for you! I bought mine from Amazon as the evoluent is very expensive and Amazon was cheaper, but i googled a lot of information first.

As a former "computer technology expert", the standard mouse for computer use was "designed" to be a basic tool used for targeting & activating icons to start/a process.
(all which was a great aid) with combating "carpal tunnel syndrome", which was a glorified name name for what secretary's & typists experienced as "tendonitis" or Repetive Strain Injury. The same similar effect started occurring after computers were introduced (using keyboards). As injuries started to mount with longer hours in front of computer screens and keyboards, they needed to make changes to a persons/operators posture (back pain), keyboards for (finger strains/carpal tunnel syndrome) and yes, even "ergonomic" mice (to lessen strain to fingers) for heavy mouse users. Ergonomics - in simple terms was a term to make one's working environment as easy and strain-free as possible, to prevent lawsuits against one's employer. For awhile almost every; option, product, improvement, change, and/or modification was considered by Marketers and Sales Gurus to be Ergonomically friendly - in an effort to sell more of their products. Note: some ergonomic products "caused" more harm than existing products. Usually if a product proves to be of more value vs similar products compared, the result is usually = higher prices.
