  • Dad's Army

No, I'm not having a laugh at the Home Guard.
This is the spigot mortar team from HQ company, 20th Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment.
It was probably taken about early 1944, in, or near, the entrance to Knole Park, Sevenoaks.
The sergeant standing at the back of the squad is my father (EFJ Hone -1898-1972 - subsequently Major in the QORWK TA).
So it really is Dad's army.
I think one of the guys in the squad was called Dickens - maybe from the Riverhead area.
If this is of interest to anyone with an ancestor in the 20th, please feel free to copy the photo, or PM me for a copy of the .jpg file.

    Geoff
