what about this Skipton West Yorkshire Electoral role for 1945
James Leake and Dorothy A Leake living in Bank Cottage
puts them both in Yorkshire so those deaths look good
Many thanks, but I'm not sure how to prove this is the right James Leake. Carole x

I believe now that the 1901 Census I had is incorrect.
James Henry Leake doesn't appear on the 1901 Census living with his wife Emma in Birmingham.
I found a James Leake on the 1901 Census living in Staveley with his sister Eliza Turner and brother in law Samuel Turner - and I thought that was James Henry Leake as he was born in Staveley. However I can't find an Eliza Leake - and I now think that the one on the 1901 Census is Elizabeth Turner nee Botham and so not James Henry Leake's sister.
I am therefore still unable to find James Henry Leake on the 1901 Census and am unable to prove if he was still in Birmingham.
Emma remarried in 1915 to Thomas Collins and therefore must have been divorced or widowed by that time.

No I haven't found him on the 1871 Census and don't know who his siblings are.
I thought Eliza was his sister on the 1901 Census but I now think that is the wrong James Leake.

I had a good look last night and noticed on the marriage he says father Henry Leake a Railway Insp the only one I could find was in 1881 he was born in 1842 Castle Bromwich in Warwickshire wife Mary Ann ,but James is not with them, do you have him in 1881 ? I have a feeling you have been following the wrong James ? could be wrong

Regarding his father Henry - I found Henry Leake (born 1840) Staveley who married Elizabeth Godfrey (also born 1840) in Staveley in 1865. I haven't been able to find them on the Census and can't prove they are the correct people, but think they are the most likely.
Many thanks for continuing to search! Carole x

I saw this when I was looking at the Godfrey's and now I am more confused given the 1871 census Val put up post 36
Don't think Alice is the mother she is only 11 here EDIT or maybe that Henry on the 1861 is not the father of James on 1871 census
I think that the James Henry on the 1901 census - the Moulder - may be the Cousin of Eliza Turner. Eliza Godfrey married one of these in 1877.
Chesterfield Reg 2nd quarter 7b 1039
Mark Mitchell
Samuel Turner
so could be Samuel Turner
Eliza is the granddaughter of John and Elizabeth and the daughter of ?? one of the latter's sons.
Elizabeth Godfrey d of John and Elizabeth born 1840 married Henry Leake in 1865 as you have already recorded Cassy.
There is a death for an Elizabeth Leake born 1841 died 1868
Chesterfield Reg 1st quarter 7b 348
There is a marriage in 1870 for a Henry Leake to Mary Ann Watson, Derby 1870
Derby reg 1st quarter 7b 527
The subsequent census Val has already put up show them together with son William H but no James Henry.
The 1871 census is a bit confusing because it has Henry Leake as a Police Constable. Maybe the wrong census.

I think Henry Leake Tucker is the stepson not son in law on the 1861 census
His mother Diana married for the 1st time to William Henry Tucker
so that looks good for James in 1871 as grandson to Diana. May be Henry dropped the Tucker before marrying Elizabeth Godfrey
