Hi,
I am a bit of a newbie on here, despite working on my family tree for about a year or so now. Recently I have found a letter and some photos of one of my grandmother's many cousins. His name is Alfred Charles William Butler and was a pilot in the RAF volunteer reserve during WW2. His letter was sent January 14th 1945 from Fayid in Egypt. He talks a lot about how hard life was in Rhodesia and how he was grateful to get out, so I assume he was stationed there not long before he wrote the letter. He did not write another letter as he died on 3rd May 1945 and is buried in Pune, India in the Kirkee war cemetery. This is actual a rather interesting coincidence as I have been to Pune a number of times and stayed near the cemetery, I am going back in December to get married and will then visit his grave.
I am happy to have all this information and such personal objects of his to honour his memory, however I want to know more, such as why he is buried in Pune, how he died and where, where he was stationed and if he received any citations and what planes he flew. I have no direct family of his that I can contact so any help or just a point in the right direction would be fantastic. I shall put all the information I have on him below. I also have two photographs of him in uniform if anyone is interested in them.
Thank you for your help.
Terry
