Margaret van Etten Hoffman b. abt 1796

I have sent another message to Phelps asking them to check for any documents about Mary Ann Hoffman who was listed as one of Connradt's daughters in his will. It might be helpful if it leads to more information about her parents. So far I have not been able to definitively locate her.

I am confused about Mary Hammond, daughter of Sarah Huffman and Harrison Hammond Sr. There are two sets of records which have her marrying different men. On the one hand you have James Haynes. We have an Oakland,Michigan Vital Record claiming that Mary married him in 1866 in Novi, Michigan.

This record names her parents correctly but says that she was born in 1849 not 1847 as in the other records.

On the other hand we have a burial for someone called Mary Hoyt who was born in 1847 in Commerce, Oakland, Michigan. Again her parents are named correctly.

On her grave it says "wife of J.M. Hoyt". The death date is 1869 three years after she supposedly married James Haynes.

I don't know what to think. I thought bigamy was a male thing. It would be logical for her to be married to James before J.M. but she died barring the name "Hoyt" three years after marrying James. Theoretically that could have happened in such a short period but it seems improbable.

I now know that Margaret had four children:
1. Sarah Ann Hoffman 1818-1909 father Coonrod Huffman
2. Mary Ann Hoffman 1827-1905 father Coonrod Huffman
3. Charles Huffman 1827-1881 father Coonrod Huffman
4. Helen M. (Wilsey) 1835-1914 unknown father
