Service record says Copeland Ryder born 24th January 1903 Fazeley and Tom Graham Mills born 30th June 1909 Solihull (illeg.) along with Harry as the only 3 children
Wish I could continue on this intriguing puzzle but am away for the weekend. Will look back later to see how things going before we leave tonight. I expect it to be sorted by the time I return

It seems that the family was split up soon after Harry was born. The girls sent off to Canada and Harry probably sent by Dr Barnardoes to a farm somewhere in England. It would be worthwhile you reading this page. You may well discover a lot of information from their records.
I'd be interested to know why tsr2007 thinks that Harry was born in Leeds. The service records (unless we've got completely the wrong family) says Solihull.
I've a feeling Harry is down as Henry Ryder nephew of Thomas and Julia Townsend in the 1911.

I agree, odd if Harry was born in Leeds but as I said upthread, we really need to know what is proven fact and what is just family hearsay.

Bearing in mind spelling variations and working alone, perhaps the Leeds birth registration was the only one Steve could find, so assumed it was the one he wanted? (Many of us have been down that road!)
Well done team on what you've unearthed so far

Ok I will give the information I have. My Grandfathers death certificate says. Death is sept 29 1965. He was born on feb 23 1906. before he was born or when he was a few years old his two sisters Gertrude Hanna Ryder and Elizabeth J Ryder were sent to Canada thru the DR Bernardo Homes. http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discove...=Q09BO&p_ID=45 This is their Ship records
Harry Ryder Mothers name is Gertrude Hanna Hunter Ryder who later remarried. Gertrude H Hunter had relatives in Oro Ontario Canada. On The Canadian 1911 census. It shows On line 30 and 31 Gertude Ryder and Elizabeth Ryder as Boarders. The head of the house? William Hunter..... I also have pictures of Gertrudes Grave and the two sisters Married two brothers. Elizabeth Married William Magee who is 13 yrs her senior. Gertrude Married Lorne Magee who was a year older.
William Magee worked as a guard in Burwash which was supposed to be a self contained prison. He was killed by accident. This is where we do not know where Elizabeth was living or where she went until The second Marriage certificate was found and she married a james Young. But in Williams obit it says he left a wife (Elizabeth) and two children.
