In the 1939 Register George H Canton b1912 is shown living at 7 Saint Vincents Close, Bridge-Blean RD, Kent. FMP shows the location to be in Littlebourne. However in the 1939 Electoral Roll he is shown as living in 6 Arden St Gillingham. Now he had a shop next door in Arden St so I think the sojourn in Littlebourne must have been temporary. In a census the address is recorded as where they are on census night regardless of how temporary but since the 1939 one was for rationing purposes I would have though that they would want the permanent address. Does anyone know?

Was his sojourn with relatives who were not very well off. He might have trying to be kind and let them collect rations in his name in the hope nobody would notice? There were no computers to cross check in those days. -
Not all shops had accommodation, my great grandfather has two grocers shops, lived over one and the other was a single storey lockup.Comment
