  • London electoral roll on ancestry, is the area I am looking for there ?

Hi, I trying to find my folks in the 1940's in East Ham with no joy.
I realise resuts for the early 40's would have been sketchy due to WW2 or is that East Ham (Newham) is not listed yet ?
Looking for the Harvey family in Stokes Road, East Ham.
    Thanks......John

    London Electorial Registers - http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=1795
Two ways of finding out if the area is covered - one is to put the area you are looking for in the keyword box, e.g. East Ham
The other way is using the search box on the right hand side of the page - CHOOSE COUNTRY OR BOROUGH from the drop down listing, and then the PARLIAMENTARY DIVISION.

I cannot see East Ham using either method!

East Ham was actually part of Essex until relatively recently. Essex Record Office has some electoral registers but not for the period you want. According to their website you need to try Newham Local Studies Library:
"8) Detailed electoral registers for the West Ham area after 1888 and the East Ham area after 1918 can be seen at Newham Local Studies Library, Stratford Library, 3 The Grove, London E15 1EL. Some electors continue to appear in Essex registers for parts of the West Ham area up to 1915. Microfilm copies of these can also be seen at Newham."

I believe the Electoral Registers were not kept during the war years.

Thanks for the help everyone, it's much appreciated.
I have been to the Newham Local Studies Library and have to say that they are not the most helpful of people there..
          Thanks again......John
