  • Help needed to find link between John Sheepshanks and William Sheepshanks

Can anyone help with some info for me please? I am trying to find if there a link between John Sheepshanks, Bishop of Norwich in 1893 to my husband's great grandfather William Sheepshanks.
John Sheepshanks was born in London 23.2.1834, I think he was married to Margaret Ryott in 1870, and was a vicar in Anfield, Liverpool. I think I found him on 1881 census.
William Sheepshanks was born 13.8.1864 in Newcastle, married to Emily Crispin in Cornwall and had 3 children. His parents may have been Richard Sheepshanks and Mary Ann Grey.
I have been unable to find the link, but my in-laws are convinced they are related in some way !
If you can help in any way, it would be much appreciated.

    Hello Wendy,

Do you have any certs for William at all? without these you cannot be 100% sure that you have the right line, though the name is kind of unusual isnt it? I think I might have found a will for William, did he die in 1928?

You would really need to develop a tree for John Sheepshanks as the connection is likely to be quite distant given their quite different places of birth and 30 years apart.

Here's John and family in 1891 RG12; Piece: 2979; Folio 124; Page 20. The transcription is wrong as it includes the next household and the reference to mother is incorrect.

Hi, thanks guys, I do not have a death date for William. I'm sure I have the right William based on what I've been told, and I have a birth certificate for him which records Richard Sheepshanks and Mary Ann Grey as parents. Also some french certificates from 1897 which records parents and date of birth the same. Not sure what they are (Extrait du Registre D'Immatriculation) ? His children were Emily Crispin Nancy, Richard David William and Jenny Ada Romola.
I wonder who Arthur Charles Sheepshanks esq and Mary Florence Evelyn Sheepshanks are?
              Thanks for the info. Wendy

I've just had a quick look on French genealogy sites, and the Registre D'Immatriculation was a register of foreigners living in France (they had to register with the local police).

Arthur Charles & Mary Florence Evelyn are the children of William SHEEPSHANKS & Emily Florence BLUNT who married in 1876 so apparently not your will .

John SHEEPSHANKS was the son of The Rev.Thomas & Katharine SHEEPSHANKS. They had a son Richard c. 1838 who was in the R.N. and died in 1870. His will shows his widow was Teresa Mary Matilda so not the same Richard as yours I think.
