The First Searches
The searches and images shown were created using the Ancestry website. My first census searches revolved around finding Martha. I knew that she married during the 1880s but apart from knowing her approximate age at marriage (from her marriage certificate) I knew nothing more about her early years. It was only through working back in time using census searches that I could narrow down the search for her birth and discover more about her. With at least two mis-transcriptions ... -

If the information you have found on the IGI has a batch number it will be a record extracted from the original register. The letters correspond to the number of the LDS microfilm:
C = Christening records from the parish
M = Marriage records
J = Males only
K = Females only - numbers correspond to the J series for males

You can use details for birthplace on the individual census record set search pages, found from the A-Z of Record sets, but you can only search one census at a time from those pages. -
