  • Family Historian and BT NetProtect Plus (McAfee)

Before you start wasting time trying to sort it out yourself and just in case you are wondering why the software isn't working suddenly - it is probably not your fault.

It seems that the latest update from BT Netprotect Plus/Mcafee has caused gremlins with FH v3 and V4. It starts to work then closes with no error messages after a minute or two.

There is a thread on FHUG which is growing quickly as people are finding the problem: http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index...m=5416&start=0

There is also at least one thread on BT Community Fourms: http://community.bt.com/t5/Other-BB-...p/287929#M9111

I don't know if it a general McAfee problem or just with the BT version, and I haven't tried to solve it myself, I am just wating to see what happens.

I have just emailed Calico Pie for support. Don't know if they are aware of the problem.

I did speak to someone at BT yesterday who suggested uninstalling FH and re insalling it. HOWEVER I can't find my original product code for V2 although I have the upgrade codes to V4.

I have FH installed on a laptop too and I have disconnected it from the internet so it doesn't upgrade the BT Netprotect!

Just to report the problem is now solved. You can see the progress of the story at FH User Group forums here http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index...splay&num=5416

I think the fact that BT Netprotect uses McAfee had a part to play in the quick resolution to this.

Anne, V2 does not have a code, so you have not lost it.

Ah!!! Thanks for that Jane. I left myself a note in the CD box "no code for this V2". When I came to look at the note again I thought I had meant that I had lost it. I'll change the note to be more specific! Thanks a lot!
