Hoping that I have not experienced a total disaster. Any advice gratefully received.
The other night I was using my FTM 2006. I opened my main tree file and went to my person list and selected the person I wanted to work on. The person view for him would not open and there was a warning box saying the data was damaged and I should use a backup file instead. I tried this a couple of times (once with the .fbk file on my hard drive and once with the .fbk file for a version on Dropbox. Both of these brought up the same issue for this person.
Fortunately for me, I had opened the main tree file in FTM2017 a week ago simply to make use of tools that are not in the old 2006. In the hope that this version was not damaged, I opened it and exported the whole tree as a gedcom choosing Version 16 as the format to match to. I then went back to 2006 and imported the resultant gedcom. It took ages to import and produced a list of issues it had found which I have copied below in the hope that some knowledgeable soul could spot if there is anything seriously concerning.
The new file, once opened in 2006 did not have the damaged data warning for the person I had wanted to work with. Things seem to be fine but I noticed when saving a copy to Dropbox for safekeeping that the file is not the same size that it once was. It's now 8.96mb. The previous version was 11.1mb. I made a screenshot of the family statistics of each version and the number of persons and marriages etc. are correct in each. There are 3 more persons and 1 more marriage in the new version which matches what I know I added. What is really different though is the statistic for "text files". The old 11.1mb file has 101432 and the new 8.96mb file has only 84507. What are text files and how do I find out what it is that I have lost?
