  • Problem with Avast update

Over Xmas I downloaded an update for free Avast. I have Windows 7 and IE11. Subsequently I was unable to access Internet Explorer. When this happened I realised that the update was the problem and did a system restore, and my IE came back.
I have looked on the web and it would seem lots have other people have this problem. I am thinking of uninstalling avast and installing ms essentials. My question is does ms essentials cover everything I need to keep my computer safe? and also is it easy to uninstall avast?
As you may gather I am not very computer savvy!
Thanks in advance for any advice

Used MSE for three years and never had a problem. As far as I am aware it updates automatically so you never have to worry about updates. Am now using a new puta with Win 8.1 and I believe that MSE is not suitable for this system.

I managed to remove Avast by using the uninstall programme on the computer. I have now installed MSE and it is now running a full scan,
          Thank you for your help.
