i-pod : second generation

Not really a computer question, but.............

My i-pod won't charge, it just flashes for a few minutes, then goes dead. I have so many lovely tunes on it, that I would love to have it in working order. Is it gone for good, or can I get a battery for it? If I can, is it easy to install one?
