  • Week 15 (Apr. 12-18): Brick Wall

Brick walls—we all have them. This would be a good week to write down what you know about your brick wall problem. (Sometimes just writing about it can help!) You could write about an ancestor who used to be a brick wall. Or get creative—maybe an ancestor who was a bricklayer?

I'm still ploughing through the blog posts week by week.

This week I have written about my 4x Great Grandfather, George Randolph, and a brickwall which may be of my own building.

It isn't easy keeping up and making weekly posts does impact on researching those harder to find people. I think being disciplined enough to try and work out lineage and links in one name, Lackey, is impressive in itself.

It is surprising how just one little snippet of information can unlock those brick walls. Good luck with yours.

thank you. I'm hoping that i can make a break through. the name in itself isn't that common, i have 43 A4 pages of births i printed off freebmd back to 1837, and i've started with the most recent births listed to link back, there has been quite a few crossed off as siblings and parents as well as many that dont seem to link anywhere. 1 lot that i did link to "mine" had their name changed whether through transcribing, accents or illiterate etc i'm not sure, and they became LEckey in the mid 1900s, and theres still some of those living in the area today as well.

yep and thats just the 1 surname!!! some have been easy to match a birth and death together as unusal middle names. it's a case of cross off as i add it and slowly work through them all - i think i will end up with lots more mini trees b4 i've finished!

I'm really pleased you're still writing!

I have been side-tracked lately by other aspects of my research and was finding this year's topics either repetitive or much too easy to "leave until later".

Thanks to FamilyTreeForum and Galloway Lass in particular. I have written an update to my initial post for Week 15 Brickwall. I am hoping that when the Mitchell Library in Glasgow opens more fully that I will be able access further documents. However for now, it looks like the George Randolph who died at Lydd Brick Wall is falling down.
