  • How best to keep old photographs

    Hi

I have been going through my box of photographs from my parents and want to put them into some sort of album, is there a specific sort of album I should buy to protect this photos or can I just purchase any please? I have already scanned the photographs onto my pc but still want to keep them physically to pass on.

    Many thanks
    Gill

I am no expert Gill but I believe that you need acetate free ones. I have just had a Google and this is what it says for preserving old photos -
Do: Invest in proper enclosures. The two safest types of enclosures are photo albums (paper and plastic) and photo boxes. All paper enclosures should be acid-free and lignin-free. If your storage space is humid, choose a paper enclosure as photos might stick to a plastic album.

      I got mine from MyHistory:

Store and preserve your original photographs. Photo album pages (A4) A4 Albums, Binders and folder, Photo box binders and Photo accessories,

You don't need to buy their albums/files but I did.

A safe long term storage environment for photographs and other paper memorabilia such as certificates and postcards etc.

Thank you both for your comments. I have just had a quick look at My History and will go down this route I think. Thanks again
