  • Death in Kent???

I'm helping my cousin with her tree and we want to buy a death cert for her great grandfather.

The info we have so far is:

Edward Ingram born Kent about 1862. This is consistant in all census records. All census are in Kent.

He is last seen on the death cert of his wife, Rosetta in 1918.
informant "Edward Ingram, widower of deceased, present at death"
    Address 2 Magdala Cottages Brasted.

He had three children, and they are all accounted for. Two came to Australia and one daughter remained unmarried and died in 1956 in Kent.

Now I've trawled the complete indexes and culled the obvious, such as children. I've also culled the districts I know are way outside Kent.

    I'm left with:

    1922....Faversham....73....should be 60.
1925...Croydon....60....should be 63. (not worried about that)
    1931....Wareham.....73....should be 69
    1934.....Wisbech...74....should be 72.

I know Faversham is Kent but the age is way out.
Are the other districts anywhere near Kent?

I've only trawled to 1937, but needed a break.

    Thanks.

    Hi Libby

Croydon is in surrey - not too far from Kent
Wisbech is in Cambridgeshire - quite a way from Kent
Wareham is in Dorset - also quite a way from Kent

    Personally i'd keep trawlling

The trouble is, he could have gone anywhere!

If you look at the 1901 census there are a couple of candidates for the aged 73 death in Kent.

Thanks Vikki. I'll put that one in my "maybe" list.

Yes, Merry. I know that Faversham one is the best placed death??? but the age is way out.
Of course, as he was a widower, maybe someone who didn't know his age was the informant.

Yes, but isn't it more likely to be the death of one of the older Edward Ingrams on the 1901 census?

I wouldn't consider doing anything until I had gone through the indexes up until he was 90, if not 100!!

1938 Edward Ingram age 76 (correct) Tonbridge. Now that IS Kent.

Brasted is quite near to Tonbridge so I would say that is well worth the risk.
Lesley passed away in November 2017.
