      Hi Jules.

I'm home from work now and can concentrate on this a bit better! You were absolutley right and Fanny's father, George Johnson was working in a cotton mill in 1901.

I also spotted Charles Henry West born in Runcorn and in the 1901 census he is living in Widnes. By then he has a wife and 2 year old child so maybe that's why he wasn't around for Fanny - if indeed it is the right one!!!

This is a strange one as I never expected to find out who George's father was and only ordered the cert to confirm a date of birth. However, now I have this "extra" clue I am desperate to find out more.

Thanks to everyone who has given their time to offer advice or do look-ups for me. I am very grateful.

        Hi,
I rather like the look of Charles Henry West in Atherton 1901, it's not far from Bolton and he is shown as a grocers assistant so must have had a bike!!
        Census RG13 piece 3595, folio 93, page 7.
