  • Jessie Mary Hedley - Wigan

    Hello

Can somebody please do me a favour and see if they can spot a Jessie Mary Hedley on the 1901 census in either Wigan or Cheshire (Chester?)

    She was born in 1892.

Any help would be fantastic, i just need parents names.

There's a Jessie M Hedley, born Wigan abt 1892, living with mother Harriet and various siblings in St. Helen's. Mother is shown as married, but father isn't there. Does that sound like the right person?

      It does, thankyou Mary

One last thing, i have a possible rellie related to her by the name of Lancelot Hedley born in 1803 Newcastle upon tyne.

I wonder if you can see the connection, its not completly important but im just curious.

Found the family living in Pemberton, Lancs, in 1891. It's a bit of an odd family.

Head: John Hedley, 83, colliery clerk, born Ince, Lancs
Wife: Harriet, 30, born Chichester, Sussex.

Children, Cecil H, 2, born Leeds, and Alice, 1, born Leeds.

Is it odd as he is 83?

Are you sure its not a mistranscription with his age as i have John born 1857?

This is probably the marriage of John and Harriet:

                Marriages Dec 1884
                HAMILTON Harriett Leeds 9b 750
                HEDLEY John Leeds 9b 750
                PARKER Charles Leeds 9b 750
SARGEAUNT Elizabeth Eliza Leeds 9b 750

John's age is odd - I'll try and find him on other censuses, in case it's a mistake.
Ancestry have transcribed it as 33, but it looks like 83 to me on the image.

There may be a Joseph Hedley born 1829 in Hartley Northumberland that may help.

In 1881 there's a John Hedley from Ince living with father Lancelot and mother Mary Ann, but John's only 3, and Lancelot's 35.

I haven't found a Joseph of the right age from Hartley yet, but my knowledge of Northumberland geography's non-existent, so if a nearby village was given, I wouldn't recognise it. Who should he be with?

Im not sure who he is with but he may be in a place named Earsdon which is Northumbaland.

Just looking for a John Hedley born c. 1857 in Ince, in 1901, as he isn't with Harriet and children.

There's one born c. 1861 in lodgings in Ince, and one born c. 1859 who's a soldier in barracks in Whittington, Staffs.

The first one's shown as a widower, and has 3 children with him: Thomas, Nellie and Ann. He's a labourer in a coal mine (below ground).

Do you by any chance see a Lancelot born 1803 as it could be a mistake by my contact.

Found Lancelot in 1841, mistranscribed as Lancelet Hedley.

He's living in Hartley, a miner, aged 35, with Jane 35 and 7 children, including 12-year-old Joseph, also a miner.

I shall have to stop now, but I'll have another look for you tomorrow if nobody else has offered in the meantime.
