Date of birth but no name

Have you got the death cert as my Dad's ex-wife's death cert gives all the previous names that she was known by.

No I don't have that, but assume that there's nothing useful on it otherwise there would not be the family mystery .... will try to find out who has it though

I don't think there is ever going to be an easy answer. Might he have been in the army in WW1? You might get useful info on the Ancestry site - if you had any clues as to what his original name might have been.

Could he be on the 1901 census? Do you think he might have changed just his surname? Would that narrow the field at all?

Have no idea as to his original name ... there's one person on 1901 census with the name he was known by but unfortunately that one died in WW1.

I have the date of birth from the death reg on ancestry but it's thought that this chap started out with a different name ...

I do know who he married and will probably send for the marriage cert, but this may not give any useful information

If they died after 1984, you can search Ancestry.

If you know the registration district and it is small enough, you could do a blanket search of births to see if anything looked familiar. Provided there is 100% freebmd coverage, that is.

Is there a way of finding the name of a person when all you have is a date and possible place of birth ?
