    What's the name?

Hi, can someone decipher the name of the 8th from the bottom at all please - Ancestry has Emmanis Smith but I have never heard of that first name before?
GRO has her birth with no name first name so I'm struggling to see a death too as she's not on the next census with her parent's either?!

    Thanks for looking :)

It looks like Emmanio to me. Never heard of that either!
Try searching 'just' on that first name in census or BMD and see what is offered. There are quite a few different ones when I tried on FMP but none exactly like that.

Thanks Ladies. I have tried different spellings but nothing coming up for those names/like those names on any other census other than that 1st one on my original post! There are also a couple of other children they have but the GRO have different maiden names to the 'mum' so I'm unsure how these last two children are connected - either the Dad has had them outside of his marriage and brought them up or they're his nephews for whatever reason registered as sons on the following census'!? I'm sure I'll get to the bottom of them at some stage!

            Val,

I haven't found a birth! That's the problem - apart from her being on that census I can't find a trace!

So in 1911 says they had 5 children and 2 have died, one is still with them in 1911 Alfred James aged 27.
If you can track the others might help.

Oohhh this is soooo annoying. Jane and Amy Ann are registered in Newbury with mms Harris but the female child registered in 1866 with same district and mms was registered without a forename. There are no more females with those search details till Dorcas in 1872

Clieveley and Shaw (in UKBMD lists as Shaw cum Donnington) are both subdistricts of Newbury. Here’s all the female Smith births for four years. 1867 -1870. Another weird thing - there’s a missing son - using same criteria but I found a Charles Robert born 1870.

I see that in the 1911 census it says she has had 5 children with 3 living, these seem to be on a selection of census (i think). do you have deaths of any of the children?

                                Jane 1862 Amy 1864 Roda 1866 Emmanis 1868 George 1869

I am wondering if it is Emma something - doesn't look like Jane but that kind of idea.

That extra Charles Robert is not the same family. I have found him on the 1871 census with his parents and siblings and visitors / lodgers a couple of whom are is surname Harris. The child Flora Eliza Jane is on GRO born Sherborne, Dorset with mms HARRISS. Charles P Smith and Elizabeth A Harris married 1866, Tisbury, Wiltshire

Right, I guess I need to order the death cert. for Emma to see if she belongs to my family as the oddly named girl - will hopefully show both parents!
The children I have is the one's you have Galloway Lass above plus on the 1891 census there appears to be a George b. 1869, Wantage, Berkshire - this is the earliest census I find him on with the family. I also found Alfred James but was confused with maiden name - again I guess I could order a cert. but wouldn't tell me much if mms isn't on GRO?
I have a christening record for Martha Rhoda for 1866 so guess she is the 'female' Smith born in 1866 - maybe Emmanis didn't get registered for some reason or is so mis-transcribed it's too hard to find!
